Diagnosis and Treatment of Varicocele

Varicocele can be considered as a clinical finding rather than a disease. In men, it can be recognised and diagnosed in routine examination due to a spontaneously noticed swelling or palpable extensions, or in advanced cases due to externally visible vascular structures.

Although the clinical diagnosis of varicocele is made by physical examination, colour ultrasound (Doppler ultrasound) imaging of the ovarian sac (scrotum) is usually performed in order to document the diagnosis radiologically, to clearly determine the testicular dimensions and to exclude other testicular pathologies in those who are planned for surgery.

Varicocele is not always a condition that requires treatment. If infertility (infertility) and poor sperm analysis (spermiogram) results are present in adult individuals, an operation is required. Surgical treatment can also be planned in case of severe pain and disturbing cosmetic condition.

Although persistent groin pain after the operation is not very common, when it occurs, it is a difficult and tiring process for both the physician and the patient.
