Penile curvature operations
Curvature of the penis can be congenital (congenital curvature) or acquired (Peyronie's Disease). Peyronie's Disease is often associated with a palpable hardness (cavernous plaque). Especially in Peyronie's Disease, erectile dysfunction may also accompany.
Correction surgeries for curvatures without erectile dysfunction are basically divided into two as pilcation (correction by suturing the opposite side) and graft procedures (correction by patching the side of the curvature). Both methods can be used in difficult cases.
Mechanical correction is almost complete. After all operations, there may be a temporary and partial loss of sensation and numbness in the penis. Erectile problems have also been reported after patch operations. The operations can be performed under spinal or general anaesthesia and usually last between 1 and 5 hours.
In Peyronie's Disease associated with erectile dysfunction, Penile Revascularisation (new vascular supply to the penis) or penile prosthesis implantation is recommended after evaluation of the penile blood supply.
